What is “Updating STCW10 Basic Training (Route 2)”?

When is the Route 2 course required?
You may be required to take the Route 2 course if:
- your STCW certificates have been expired for a longer period, or
- you cannot demonstrate sufficient recent sea service.

What is the difference between the standard and Route 2 Updating?
Both courses update the same STCW modules. The Route 2 course includes more training time and assessment to address gaps in certification validity or sea service history.
Can I choose between standard and route 2 myself?
No. The correct course is determined based on your certificates and sea service. Booking the wrong option may delay certification or require additional training.
What if my STCW certificate was issued outside the UK?
That is usually fine. Certificates issued by recognised STCW authorities (IMO White List) are reviewed for equivalency before enrolment.
How important is English for the Route 2 Updating?
English is essential — both written and spoken. You must understand safety briefings, follow instructions during practical training, and complete written tests in English.
What should I bring or wear?
- Fire training: long socks covering the legs up to the knees
- Survival training: long pants are mandatory
Students without appropriate clothing will not be allowed to participate in practical sessions.
