Updating Fast Rescue Boat (UFRB)
Essential for crew assigned to launch, operate, or command Fast Rescue Boats (FRBs) onboard. This certification meets STCW standards and is required on vessels carrying FRBs, especially for support vessels, SOLAS ships, and many offshore operations.
Understand how fast rescue boats are built, maintained, and launched—including the equipment involved.
Operate and command an FRB in varying sea conditions, including man-overboard recovery and SAR coordination.
Practice righting a capsized vessel and safely re-boarding in rough water conditions.
Learn standard search techniques and how to retrieve and transfer casualties from water to vessel or helicopter.

Certificate must be issued by a maritime authority of an IMO White List country
If PSCRB is expired, candidate must complete a PSCRB Updating Course (A-VI/2-1 Refresher) before enrolling
FRB is an advanced STCW practical course that trains seafarers to launch, recover, manoeuvre, and command fast rescue boats during emergencies. It focuses on high-speed boat handling, search and recovery, and safe crew coordination in challenging conditions.
FRB is required for officers and designated crew assigned to operate fast rescue boats on commercial vessels and yachts. It is commonly required by flag states, ISM/ISPS procedures, and employers where fast rescue boats are carried.
Yes. The course is delivered in accordance with Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) requirements and complies with STCW 2010 Manila Amendments, making it internationally recognised and accepted by flag states and employers.
Yes. The course includes a written test covering rescue boat operations, safety procedures, emergency response, and crew coordination. Knowledge is reinforced through continuous practical assessment.
Yes. Assessment is primarily practical and includes launching and recovery, high-speed manoeuvring, person-overboard recovery, towing, and safe operation in simulated emergency scenarios.
If you do not meet the required standard, you are allowed to take a resit. Instructors will explain what needs improvement before reassessment. The aim is operational safety and competence.
English is essential — both written and verbal. You must understand instructions, communicate clearly during high-risk manoeuvres, and complete written tests in English.
Yes. You must already hold STCW Basic Safety and typically PSCRB or equivalent survival craft training. FRB builds on existing survival and rescue knowledge.
The FRB certificate is valid for five years. To remain compliant, holders must complete an MCA-approved refresher or meet revalidation requirements before expiry.
FRB is essential for crew working on commercial yachts, ships, offshore vessels, and cruise ships where rapid rescue response is required.
