Yacht Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Theory)
Every yacht relies on electrical systems to power lights, radios, pumps, and navigation tools. This course helps new crew understand how those systems work and how to safely handle basic faults and maintenance. It’s the first step to becoming confident with onboard electrics—whether you’re assisting with battery checks, wiring tasks, or power issues at sea.
Understand the basics of electricity, how power flows through a vessel, and the difference between AC and DC systems.
Learn how batteries are tested and charged using alternators, solar panels, or shore power, and how to avoid common issues.
Identify electrical distribution systems, fuses, breakers, and safety devices and their purpose and function in the system.
Practice simple repairs, like tightening connections, crimping wires, using heat shrink tubing, and testing circuits with a multimeter.
